Julian A. James, 27, of 1049 Huntington St., was charged by Watertown police with resisting arrest at 2:39 a.m. Saturday.

Police said Mr. James pushed officers and tried to keep them from handcuffing him after they told him he was under arrest due to confirmation of two active bench warrants issued by Jefferson County Court.

Police said Mr. James was in possession of a double-edged dagger at the time of his arrest. He was charged with third-degree criminal possession of a weapon because he was convicted of fifth-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance in January 2011.

He was sent to the Metro-Jefferson Public Safety Building, where he was being held on $10,000 bail or $20,000 bondpending arraignment Saturday in Watertown City Court. Following arraignment, he was turned over to Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies to answer the bench warrants.
