POTSDAM - The SUNY Potsdam men’s lacrosse team was the only team to compete this past week.

MEN’S LACROSSE

The men’s lacrosse team hosted cross-town rival Clarkson University on Wednesday and then traveled to Oneonta, N.Y. to face Harwick College over the weekend. The Bears late rally fell short Wednesday afternoon as they dropped a tough 8-7 loss to the Golden Knights. Clarkson scored six first quarter goals in what seemed to be an easy victory. However, Potsdam stormed back in the fourth quarter and nearly completed the comeback.

Junior midfielder Robbie Ashlaw (North Syracuse, N.Y.) led the Bears with three goals and an assist. On Saturday, Potsdam had a strong offensive showing in a 14-5 decision over Hartwick College. Eight different Bears scored in the victory. The Hawks would connect on the first marker just 56 seconds into the game. The Potsdam offense answered and never looked back as they cruised to the win. Junior midfielder Derek Frost (Williamsville, N.Y. ) matched a career-best five points with three goals and two assists to lead the Bears, while Jeff Seager (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) added two goals and one assist. Senior goalie Stefan Sloma (Niskayuna, N.Y.) had a solid day, making 11 saves and allowing just four goals in the first 55:56 to earn the win.

WOMEN’S LACROSSE

The women’s lacrosse team’s game versus SUNY Canton was postponed due to weather conditions. The contest has been rescheduled for Sunday, April 7, at 1 p.m.

PERFORMERS OF THE WEEK

Junior Derek Frost earns his second performer of the week honor. Frost had six points in two games for the Bears this week. The junior recorded an assist against Clarkson on Wednesday. On Saturday, he broke out with three goals and two assists in Potsdam’s 14-5 win at Hartwick, to tie a career-high five points.

Senior Stefan Sloma is the Bears’ co-male performer of the week. Sloma made a career-high 19 saves on Wednesday against Clarkson. He then stopped another 11 shots against Hartwick to earn his third career victory. The week lowered his goals-against-average to 5.46 and raised his save percentage to .704.
