Massena: Gerald Vernon Clark, 91 of Massena, died Sunday, March 17th, 2013 at his home in Massena, surrounded by his loving family and Hospice of the North Country.
Born in Malone, June 4th, 1921, he was the son of Norman and Myrtle Sweet Clark. He graduated from Franklin Academy. Following graduation, he was employed at the former Bronze Powder Works in Malone, until he joined the Army Air Corp in 1942. He served in the Signal Corp until 1945 when he was honorably discharged. He returned to employment at the Bronze Powder Works until 1948 when he became employed by ALCOA in Massena. He retired in 1979. Mr. Clark was a former Chief of the Malone Call Fireman and is still an exempt member. He was also a member of the Seaway Squares, former member of Malone Masonic Lodge F&AM, a communicant of the Methodist Church, and past member of the Army Reserve Unit.
On April 14th, 1994, he married Nellie Lester at the Centenary United Methodist Church in Malone. His wife of 68 years survives, as does a son, Gerald Douglas Clark and his wife Penny of Massena, two daughters Mrs. Joyce (Kenneth) LaBuff of Plano, Texas, and Mrs. Cheryl (Daniel) Lefeve of Massena; eight grandchildren Thomas LaBuff, Carrie, Christopher and Eric Clark, Nicole Guerin, Jennifer and Jeremy Lefeve, Jordon Barlow and seven great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a grandson Jason Guerin, his parents, four brothers Edwin, Ralph, Loren and Kenneth and a sister Eileen McNulty.
The funeral service will be held at the Centenary United Methodist Church Friday, March 22nd, at 11am. Following the funeral service there will be a reception at the Malone Call Firemans for a time of food, fellowship and remembrance. Gifts in Mr. Clarks memory may be given to the Malone Call Fireman, Massena Rescue Squad, or Hospice of the North Country. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Spaulding Funeral Home of Malone.
