CANTON - The 2012-13 Section 10 Basketball season came to an end on Wednesday with the annual Jules of Life Boys and Girls Senior Games, Three-Point Shooting Contest and Slam Dunk Contest at St. Lawrence Universitys Burkman Gym.
The coaches and fans enjoyed a chance to offer a trip to the seniors making their curtain calls, the precision of the three-point shooters and the athleticism and creativity of the slam dunk participants.
The players enjoyed a chance to be part of a fund-rasier for a great cause: the misson of the Jules of Life Foundation which is presently assisting five youngsters and their families, who are currently carrying on their personal battles against cancer.
Section 10 Basketball presented Jules of Life Board member Mary Lou Robinson with a $550 donation.
I really want to thank everyone who participated tonight. This donation will definitely help, said Mrs. Robinson. Our foundation is presently helping five St. Lawrence County youngsters who are fighting cancer. Four planned to be here tonight but they came down with flu-like symptoms.
SENIOR GAMES
The Senior Games saw the Lady Reds post a 66-38 win over the Blues and Senior Blues record a 73-61 win over the Reds in the Boys Game.
Hammonds Alyssa Crosby buried a pair of three-pointers and the Lady Reds never trailed. Crosby tallied 10 of her 14 points in the first half and Norwood-Norfolks Carlea Weaver (8 points) and Kathleen Coloney (10 points) each struck for six in a 34-14 intermission margin.
Other scoring for the winners came from Cantons Emma Rexford (8), St. Lawrence Centrals Sam Richards (4), Hermon-DeKalbs Clarissa Davis (3), Massenas Marissa Manley 4), Gouverneurs Rachel Knowlton (3), St. Regis Falls Kaitlyn White (2), Madrid-Waddingtons Katie Marcellus (2) and Clifton-Fines Lexi Pomerville (6).
Shanielle Chambers of Potsdam tallied eight points to lead the Blues, who received six points from SLCs Breanna Vatter and five points each from Massenas Alisha Jacobs, St.Regis Falls Brittany Rondeau and Caitlyn LePage of Brushton-Moira. Rounding out the scoring were: Heuveltons Ashlyn Piercey and Hammonds Gabby Marshall who each netted a three-pointer.
Zack Rusaw of Massena scored 10 points in each half and hammered home three second-half dunks leading the victorious Boys Blues squad with 20 points.
OFAs Breton LaRose and Malones Jon Dunlavey followed with 12 and 11 points and Heuveltons Dedrick Johnson finished with nine. Rounding out the winning offense were: Devin Barnes of Chateaugay (3), Madrid-Waddingtons Greg Thompson (6), Massenas Joey LaBelle (7) and Malones Nate Monette (5).
Potsdams Konnor Bigwarfe and Zane Ramsdell of St. Lawrence each tallied 10 points for the Reds followed by Caleb Green of St. Regis Falls and Justin LaVarnway of Brushton-Moira with eight apiece.
Other scoring came from: Madrid-Waddingtons Colin OBryan (4), Harrisvilles Nick Weir (4), Lisbons Adam Felt (4), Malones Mitch Gallagher (6), OFAs Pat Cosmo (4) and Cavan LaRose (1) and Heuveltons Cody Holland (4).
THREE-POINT SHOOTING
The Three-Point Shooting Contest saw of the NACs most prolific long range snipers emerge victorious.
Cantons Emma Rexford outdistanced the girls field with a contest high 20 points followed by 11-point efforts from M-Ws Bridget Bledock, PotsdamsSarah Vivlamore and Gouverneurs Rebecca Bulsiewicz and OFas Riley Luckie.
Caleb Green of St. Regis Falls struck for 18 points to edge Adam Felt of Lisbon and OFAs Cavan LaRose at 17 apiece for honors among the boys.
In the duel for overall honors, Green outscored Rexford 18-14.
SLAM DUNK CONTEST
The Slam Dunk Contest saw the Massena brother combination of Xavier (48 points) and Zevon Viskovich (46 points) and Hermon-DeKalbs Macaulay Snell (46 points) emerge as finalists from a group eight entries. Lisbons Jim Robinson and Massenas Zack Rusaw each finished with 45 points.
Xavier Viskovich outscored Snell 27-22 in the finals with Zevon Viskovich missing on both of his attempts.
