Carthage- The funeral for Harold L. Waite will be 11 am Tuesday, March 26th at the Reed & Benoit Funeral Home with Pastor Don Briant officiating. Burial will be later in the spring in Black River Cemetery. Calling hours are Monday, March 25th from 7pm - 9pm at the funeral home. Contributions may be made to the Champion Fire Department.
Mr. Waite, 74, Sayre Rd., Carthage, died from injuries he sustained in a one car accident Monday morning, March 19th in the Town of Champion.
Harold was born August 20, 1938 in Town of Champion, the ninth child of nineteen to Merritt and Helena Fitzgerald Waite, and was educated in local schools. He served in the US Army from 1959-1961. Following his honorable discharge, he worked for Crown Zellerbach in Carthage for a few years. Harold later became a union carpenter, working for several construction companies in the area. He continued to do carpentry work following his retirement.
Harold was a member of the Carpenters Union, Watertown. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and four wheeling.
He married Kay Andrews March 2, 1963. She passed away January 31st of this year.
Harold is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Jeannie and Bill Doney, Orange City, FL. A son and daughter-in-law, Joseph and Debra Waite, Black River. 6 grandchildren, Jenny, William II, Russell and Jessica Doney, Nicole Howard and Robert Hatch. 6 sisters, Mary Greenwood, Copenhagen; Irene Astafan, FL; Sarah Jane (Bill) Walseman, Carthage; Ellen (Jim) Remington, Glenfield; Helen (Joe) Morisette and Martha (Patrick) McCarthy, all of Cape Vincent. Nine brothers, Hebert (Janice),Black River; Duane (Ada), Watertown; John (June), FL; George (Rochelle), Champion; Ernie, Watertown; Paul and Howard, Castorland; David (Linda), Champion; Jerry, Lilburn, GA. 52 nieces and nephews, over 100 great nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by two sisters, Evelyn and Carol and a brother Kenneth.
