Funding not included in Gov. Andrew M. Cuomos state budget proposal, $500,000 for the Northern New York Agricultural Development Program, is now in the state Senates plan.
The move suggests there is a good probability the funding, which the program received last year, will be included in the final 2013-14 budget lawmakers will approve soon in Albany. The nonprofit agriculture program conducts numerous research projects to assist farmers in St. Lawrence, Jefferson, Lewis, Franklin, Essex and Clinton counties. The fundings restoration was lauded by Jon R. Greenwood, co-chairman of the nonprofit groups board and a dairy farmer in St. Lawrence County.
We are pleased to see the Senate budget that recognizes how critical agriculture is to the Northern New York economy and to the state economy, he said in a released statement.
