Brantingham couple sues South Lewis district over bus crash

LOWVILLE — A Brantingham couple is suing the South Lewis Central School District over a bus accident from a year ago.

James C. and Mary L. Mercer are seeking unspecified damages from a March 29 crash on Burdicks Crossing Road in the town of Turin, according to a state Supreme Court lawsuit filed Friday in the Lewis County clerk’s office.

The lawsuit, filed by Syracuse law firm Menter, Rudin and Trivelpiece, claims Mr. Mercer suffered “permanent and disabling” injuries when the 2004 Cadillac he was driving was rear-ended by a bus being driven by John E. Widrick.

It suggests the incident was caused by negligence and carelessness and seeks damages for pain and suffering by Mr. Mercer and loss of consortium for Mrs. Mercer.

The couple also named Mr. Widrick and the South Lewis Board of Education as defendants.
