Bernier, Carr & Associates of Watertown announced today that Bernard H. “Bernie” Brown Jr., chief executive officer, and Pamela S. Beyor, chairperson of the board of directors, will both retire at the end of 2013.

Effective immediately, municipal engineer Kris D. Dimmick has been promoted as the vice president of operations. Mr. Dimmick, who has been with the firm since 1991, will take over the day-to-day operations that were previously managed by Mrs. Beyor at the firm.

Mr. Brown, who has served at the firm 29 years, and Mrs. Beyor, who's served for 28, will actively work with the firm's nine partners for the remainder of the year to ensure a successful leadership transition.

“We've been working directly with them for a long time, and we realized that it was now the right time for us to pass the torch to new leaders,” Mr. Brown, 60, said. “They'll now be able to rise up as leaders in the firm.”

The firm is expected to hire a chief executive officer by the end of 2013, Mr. Brown said, and has hired a consulting firm to seek internal and external candidates.

Mrs. Beyor, 51, said the firm has an excellent financing standing and is positioned to continue growing in the future. The firm now employs 79 employees.

“This firm has been around 43 years and has a foundation as solid as a rock,” she said. “That foundation is going to continue to be strong.”

Established in 1970, the firm now designs and manages numerous municipal, educational, medical, private industry and nonprofit projects across the north country and state.
