WEST CARTHAGE The Carthage-West Carthage Water Pollution Control Facilities Management Board chose engineering firm GHD Inc. of Cazenovia to conduct a grant-funded study for improvements to the wastewater treatment plant.
A three-member committee reviewed the proposals from five firms and recommended GHD over Bernier, Carr & Associates of Watertown, C2AE of Potsdam, OBrien & Gere of Syracuse and Barton & Loguidice of Syracuse.
Committee chairwoman Kathleen E. Latremore said GHD exhibited quite a level of expertise in the area, which will help us down the road.
The board authorized G. Wayne McIlroy, village of Carthage president, the lead agent on the project, to sign the contract with the firm.
Carrie M. Tuttle, director of engineering for the Development Authority of the North Country, said firm representatives had planned an aggressive schedule and expected to complete the work by May 1.
Board members also authorized the revision to the resolution for the Wastewater Engineering Study Project planning grant, recalculating the 20 percent matching funds for the $30,000 grant to reflect the percentage figured on the projects total amount, $3,750. They increased the local share from $6,000 to $7,500.
