GOUVERNEUR - David Leo Gaumes, 55, passed away Saturday, March 23, 2013 at his home where he was under the care of his family and Hospice of St. Lawrence Valley.

There will be no funeral service and calling hours are Thursday, March 28th from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at the Green Funeral Home, Gouverneur. Following the end of calling hours on Thursday, the family would like to invite friends to stop at the Gouverneur VFW.

David was born December 14, 1957 in Gouverneur, the son of Manuel and JoAnn (Mackey) Gaumes Jr.

He graduated from Gouverneur High School in 1977.

David married Peggy Sawyer on February 5, 1983 in Fowler with Virginia Sampson officiating.

David worked at Imery’s Inc. from 1983 until 2008. He enjoyed watching hockey, especially the Boston Bruins and collecting coins. David also enjoyed camping at Cole’s Creek and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

David is survived by his wife Peggy, his mother JoAnn Gaumes of Gouverneur, a daughter Melissa and John Spencer of Gouverneur, a son Jason Gaumes and his companion Natalie Call of Gouverneur, 8 grandchildren Caleb Link, Charles McDougall Jr., Lily McDougall, Aidan Spencer, Alexander Spencer, Landon Gaumes, Ellie Gaumes, and Jordan Call. He is also survived by 2 brothers Eric and Joanne Gaumes of Edwards, Thomas and Joyce Gaumes of Gretna, VA, 4 sisters Lynn and William Bulger of Gouverneur, Joy and Steve Hamilton of DeKalb Jct., Sherry and Wayne Martin of Schaghticoke, Tammy Gaumes of Gouverneur, several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

He is predeceased by his father Manuel Gaumes Jr., his paternal grandparents Manuel and Nancy (Rowe) Gaumes Sr., his maternal grandparents Leo and Margaret (Bennett) Mackey, and his father-in-law and mother-in-law Cecil and Loretta (Blair) Sawyer.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of St. Lawrence Valley, 6805 US Hwy 11, Potsdam, NY 13676 or Gouverneur Vol. Rescue Squad, PO Box 164, Gouverneur, NY 13642.
