State Sen. Patty A. Ritchie, R-Heuvelton, will stay in her Ogdensburg office for two more years.
The City Council earlier this week voted 7-0 in favor of a two-year lease on 840 square feet of space at City Hall that the senator has rented as a regional office since summer 2011.
The rent will remain the same as before, $210.06 per month or $2,520.72 annually retroactive to Jan. 1 and remaining in effect until Dec. 31, 2014.
James E. Reagen, who runs the office as the senators St. Lawrence County communications director, said Wednesday that the Ogdensburg outpost has been a success for her.
The senator is very pleased to have an office in her home community, he said.
Mrs. Ritchie also has a satellite office in Watertown, but Mr. Reagen said it was both a chore and an unrealistic expectation for constituents from the Ogdensburg area and elsewhere in the St. Lawrence County section of the 48th Senate District to travel 60 miles to get there.
Ogdensburg is closer.
Were in the neighborhood, Mr. Reagen said.
The presence of the senators Ogdensburg office is appreciated in particular by one public servant.
Its nice to be able to walk into the senators office, said City Councilor Daniel E. Skamperle. I have done it many times.
