The non-partisan documentary “Fear of a Black Republican” will be screened for students and community members at 7 p.m. today at St. Lawrence University, Canton.

Filmed and edited over a six-year period, the film by Shamrock Stine Productions examines why there are so few black Republicans (and by extension, other minorities) and how this affects the country’s political system.

The movie, in the Student Center’s Winston Room, will be followed by a student-led discussion.

Trailers for “Fear of a Black Republican” can be viewed at www.fearofablackrepublican.com and on YouTube.

Filmmaker Kevin Williams, of Trenton, N.J., spoke with Democrats and Republicans while journeying over four years and two presidential elections to find out if the two-party political system is failing his city and the country.

Among those appearing and speaking in the film are presidential candidates Mitt Romney, Mike Huckabee and John McCain, commentators Tavis Smiley and Michelle Malkin, conservative thinkers Newt Gingrich, Grover Norquist and Ann Coulter, and then President-elect Barack Obama, President George W. Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney.
