Gouverneur’s Brian Leonard was reunited with his college coach at Rutgers University, Greg Schiano, on Monday as he became a member of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The Bucs will be Leonard’s third NFL team in seven years after enjoying a standout career at Rutgers University under Schiano who led the Bucs to a 7-9 record last season.

Several media outlets reported that Leonard was leaving the Cinncinati Bengals in signing a one-year contact as a free agent with the Bucs.

According the Tampa Bay Times, Leonard will contend with D.J. Ware for the role of a third-down back. In two years with the St. Louis Rams and four years with the Bengals, Leonard distinguished himself as a versatile running back-fullback with the proven ability pick up first downs as a runner and a pass receiver.

Last season he averaged 3.1 yards per run and 7.3 yards per catch with the Bengals where he was also valued for his play on special teams.

Leonard, who hosts a summer football camp at SUNY Potsdam, commented about the signing on his Twitter account on Monday.

“Had a great run with Bengals, thanks for the last four years,” he tweeted.
