MASSENA - If youre a subscriber to the monthly newsletter put out by the Greater Massena Chamber of Commerce and are looking for it in your mailbox, you can stop looking.
The chamber has gone green by offering the newsletter and accompanying monthly calendar on their website only.
Chamber Executive Director Michael J. Gleason said they had mailed more than 400 copies of their newsletter to chamber members and to anybody else who wanted it.
Now, those who want to see the newsletter can just visit the chambers website, www.massenachamber.com and view or download the PDF file. A separate PDF file contains the calendar of events for the month.
The move will offer chamber members another way to get their information easier and faster, while doing away with paper, he said.
We are reducing our carbon footprint by offering our monthly newsletter and monthly calendar of events electronically versus mailing. Starting with April, the chamber newsletter and calendar will be conveniently available electronically via the Massena chamber website, Mr. Gleason said.
Providing the newsletter on their website also allows them to make it more visually appealing, he said. Among the features in the latest newsletter are full-color photographs - something not available in the print version - of the award winners from the recent annual dinner and the Easter egg hunt sponsored by the Massena Chamber and Massena Kiwanis Club.
Its a nicer presentation, Mr. Gleason said. Its really the best way to go. It gives more of a visual feel.
He said, by offering the newsletter and calendar on-line, they also hope to draw more visitors to the chambers website.
Were trying to drive traffic to our website, he said.
We are very proud of the chamber website and it is considered the place to go when looking for events or things to do in Massena, Chamber President Susan E. Stiles said.
As more and more publications move to the web, Mr. Gleason said they decided to follow them.
Thats the way everybody is going now. More magazines are on-line, he said.
In addition to the newsletter and calendar, the chamber offers their bi-monthly Chamber Connections mailing through Constant Contact. The emails offer the most current news and information about chamber-related activities, according to Mr. Gleason, as well as gives Massena Chamber members a free advertising opportunity.
Were hoping to get more members who want to join and take advantage of the whole setup we have with Constant Contact. We really try to get people to buy in and get our emails, he said.
