Lewis Countys unemployment rate in February was the highest in the state at 13.0 percent, according to figures released Tuesday by the state Department of Labor. Jefferson County, at 12.3 percent, tallied the third highest rate.
Compared with February 2012, Jefferson Countys jobless rate in February 2013 increased from 12.1 to 12.3 percent and Lewis Countys jumped from 12.4 to 13.0 percent. St. Lawrence County recorded a slight decrease from 11.5 to 11.4 percent.
In contrast to January, Jefferson Countys rate was unchanged in February, Lewis County increased from 12.9 percent and St. Lawrence County dropped from 12.1 percent.
The statewide jobless rate sank from 9.1 to 8.8 percent compared with February 2012.
