Jefferson Community College will get $6,958,406 in state aid in its 2013-14 budget.
According to Vice President for Administration and Finance Daniel J. Dupee II, the college will get an increase of $150 per full-time student equivalent for a total of $2,422 per FTE still less than the $205 increase community colleges in the state requested to keep tuition down.
Obviously, its an increase to our budget, and were grateful for any increase to offset our costs, said Mr. Dupee.
Full time equivalency is based on the number of full-time students and how many credit hours part-time students are taking.
The increase, which is a 1 percent increase in this years $25.5 million budget and a 6 percent increase from this years state aid, is still $100 less in aid per FTE than the college received in 2006-07.
It hasnt even made it back up to 08-09, but were on the right track, at least, said Mr. Dupee.
He said the shortfall from the community colleges request to state legislators for SUNYs Five-year Rational Tuition Plan is not going to hurt JCC as much as it may affect other community colleges.
Were lucky that our enrollment has grown, so the impact we felt here hasnt been as bad as in areas with declining enrollment, he said.
This years FTE is 2,873 students. The college has seen increases in enrollment over the last several years, pushing over a record-breaking 4,000 students total in the 2011-12 school year.
Mr. Dupee is not sure what the aids impact will be on the upcoming budget that he is beginning to build.
JCCs budget faces approval from the Jefferson County Board of Legislators in July before final approval from the state.
Were not that far into the budget process, he said. We have to see what kind of deficit were at right now and figure out what we need to do to fill that gap, he said.
That includes how tuition fits in, as well.
We havent discussed a tuition increase at this time, he said. That will all be discussed as we move forward with the budget process.
