Woman admits to July stabbing, couple gets jail for drugs

MALONE - A Fort Covington woman admitted in Franklin County Court on Monday that she stabbed her live-in boyfriend during a domestic dispute in July.

Joan Terrell, 64, pleaded guilty to second-degree assault and first-degree endangering the welfare of a vulnerable elderly person. When sentenced on May 20, she could be sent to state prison for a maximum term of seven years.

A statement from state troopers said they discovered Wayne J. Henault, 64, with a small puncture wound to his back while assisting with an EMS call at 2556 Chateaugay St., Fort Covington. The call originally reported that he had fallen out of bed.

He was transported to Alice Hyde Medical Center where he underwent emergency surgery and was later released.

In other county court business before Judge Robert G. Main Jr. on Monday, a husband and wife from Akwesasne were sentenced to a combination of jail and probation for selling cocaine in October.

Owen Swamp, 36, was sentenced to six months in the Franklin County Jail and placed on probation for five years after pleading in January to third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. He was also ordered to undergo 180 days of electronic home monitoring, pay $120 restitution and had his driver’s license suspended.

Crystal Cook, 35, was sentenced to 90 days county jail time, placed on probation for five years and had her driver’s license suspended.

Grand jury indictments handed up in December charged each of them with third-degree criminal sale and possession of a controlled substance, stemming from Oct. 25 incidents.
