MALONE - A Sunmount resident pleaded guilty to a reduced charge stemming from an attack on a staff member in September.

Christopher Chambers, 26, admitted to attempted second-degree strangulation. He is scheduled to be sentenced on May 20 and could face up to four years in state prison.

On Sept. 25, Chambers was being escorted by two staff members after being unruly when he put one of them in a chokehold until he nearly lost consciousness.

A grand jury indictment handed up on Jan. 3 charged him with second-degree strangulation, first-degree unlawful imprisonment and third-degree assault.

In other county court business before Judge Robert G. Main Jr. on Monday, a New York City man was sentenced to jail time for a September home invasion robbery in Saranac Lake.

Mouhamed Mbaye, 20, will spend the next year in county jail and five years on probation for one count of second-degree attempted robbery; he was given a concurrent one-year sentence in the county jail for second-degree criminal trespass.

Mbaye and two others broke into an apartment brandishing a pellet gun and stole electronics, knives, debit cards and cash. His two accomplices have pending cases.

Mbaye pleaded guilty to the charge by superior court information, meaning he waived his right to a grand jury indictment. He was originally charged with first-degree robbery, first-degree burglary, fourth-degree conspiracy and three counts of fourth-degree grand larceny.
