POTSDAM - St. Lawrence County Sheriffs Deputies investigated a one-car personal injury motor vehicle accident on the South Canton Road in the Town of Potsdam on Monday evening. Potsdam Fire and Rescue received a call about the accident around 8:05 p.m. and responded to the scene. The driver, Teresa M. Hooper, 22, 15 Janes Road in Canton, told emergency personnel that she swerved her 2005 Saturn Ion to avoid hitting a deer while heading east on South Canton Road. The car exited the left shoulder of the roadway, overturning before coming to rest against some small trees and a fence. Potsdam Fire and Rescue removed the roof of the car and extracted the driver, who was taken to the Canton-Potsdam Hospital with non-life threatening injuries and complaints of neck and back pain. Hooper was charged with failure to keep right and is to answer the charge in Potsdam Court at a later date.
