Oneonta sweeps doubleheader from Canton

ONEONTA — SUNY Oneonta spun a one-hitter in the first game, then thwarted a SUNY Canton rally with the winning run in the eighth inning in the second game to register a nonleague softball doubleheader sweep Monday.

Katie O’Flynn allowed only a single to Kangaroos center fielder Nicole Mulieri in a 10-0 victory for Oneonta in Game 1. O’Flynn struck out nine and walked one. Kalyn Deso went 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs.

In the second game, Deso delivered a run-scoring double in the bottom of the eighth to give Oneonta a 7-6 victory. Oneonta (7-13) held a 5-2 lead until Canton (9-13) rallied for four runs in the sixth to take a 6-5 edge.

Andrea Rogers supplied two hits and two RBIs for the Roos. Allie Gibson knocked in a pair of runs and Mulieri singled and doubled.
