Local colleges: Knights’ Shearin named LL offensive player of week


Brendon Shearin of the Clarkson University men’s lacrosse team was named the Liberty League Offensive Performer of the Week, the school announced Monday,

Shearin, a senior, led the Golden Knights to a 2-0 week, providing four goals in a nonleague win over SUNY Oswego and adding three in a conference victory over Union College.

Other award winners include St. Lawrence’s Jeremy Vautour and Clarkson’s Christine Wright, who were selected as the league’s rookie of the week for men’s and women’s lacrosse, respectively.

Three St. Lawrence athletes claimed track and field awards as Hannah Kinsey was named the Track Performer of the Week, Marisa Turner is the Field Performer of the Week and Nick Crawford is the men’s rookie of the week.

In men’s tennis, Michael Hayden of St. Lawrence was chosen as the performer of the week and teammate Rhonny Rosario is the rookie of the week.

Several other area athletes were named to the weekly honor roll in their respective sports, including Jeff Kott (St. Lawrence, baseball); Bryan Chudy (Clarkson, baseball); Slyssa Cristaldi (Clarkson, women’s lacrosse); Morgan McNeal (St. Lawrence, women’s tennis).
