The Jefferson County Sheriffs Department has scheduled four state boating classes for April and May.
Courses are recommended for any new adult boaters; they are mandatory for anyone age 10 to 18 to legally operate a boat or jet ski or any other watercraft in the state.
Classes are from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 20 and 21 and May 18 and 19. They will be held at the Metro-Jefferson Public Safety Buildings training room.
The Sheriffs Department hosts the courses for free, but the state Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation charges a $10 fee for anyone 18 and older. Students younger than 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
