POTSDAM - Striking for three goals in the first and fourth quarters, the OFA Boys Lacrosse team downed Colton-Pierrepont 9-5 in its Northern Conference opener on Tuesday night at the Potsdam Central turf field.
Coach Matt Morley credited his team for a strong showing after a reorganization project.
We had five guys leave the team for different reasons just before Spring break so we needed guys to step up tonight, said Coach Morley.
Everyone did a great job tonight. Spencer Lawrence made some big saves in goal and we received offensive contributions by a lot of people.
The Devils jumped out to a 3-0 first quarter lead and scored three straight goals in the fourth quarter after denying a two-man power play by the Colts.
Andrew Roddy delivered four goals and two assists and Jake Garrison scored twice and passed out three assists to lead the OFA offense. Austin Morley-Sloan and Jordan McCormick each finished with one goal and assist and Andrew Putman and Taylor Richardson each passed out one assist for rthe Devils who will play Canton on Friday night at 7:30 p.m. at SUNY Canton.
Scott Boyce scored twice for C-P (0-2) and Noah Whalen scored one goal and set up another tally. Cody Green scored a single goal and Andrew Holden added an assist to back a 10-save goaltending effort by Craig Miller.
Canton 6 - Massena 5:Canton (1-0) led 3-0 at rthe half and survived a second-half rally to defeat the Red Raiders (0-1). Jack Elberty led Canton with a goal and two assists and Ryan Caldwell, Garrett Glasgow, Josh Pierson, Peyton VanBibber and Jake Facey also scored.
Sako Rouke and Ross Driscoll scored twice for Massena with Sam Gerber producing Massenas other goal.
Potsdam 14 - Saranac Lake 5:Chad Varney scored two goals with three assists to lead the Sandstoners (1-0). Steve Lewis scored three goals and Kyle Grant added two goals and two assists. Seth Pickering led Saranac Lake (0-1) with four goals and Andrew Paschke scored the other goal.
Salmon River 13 - SLC 5:Dalston Day scored three goals with one assist and Skylar Thomas added three goals for the Shamrocks (1-0).
Russ Oakes and Trenton Tarbell scored two goals for Salmon River. Ian Lynch led the Larries (0-1) with three goals and Cody Burns and Blake Baldwin also scored.
