WEST CARTHAGE After a several-year hiatus, the River Area Council of Governments Planning Committee reconvened Monday.
Representatives from all four governments planning boards were present, along with Tug Hill Commission representatives.
Those present agreed the scope of work that brought them together in 2000 has been accomplished. The group has standardized the application and permit review process, site plan review procedures and special-use permit procedures. Enforcement and subdivision procedures have been drawn up to meet the needs of the villages of Carthage and West Carthage and the towns of Champion and Wilna. A cooperative Zoning Board of Appeals was established. Comprehensive plans were drawn up for each municipality.
With these accomplishments, the group agreed the main purpose for meeting had been met.
However, members decided there is a need to meet and compare zoning laws being drafted for each municipality. Laws concerning free-standing solar panels, property maintenance, wind turbines and storage containers were discussed.
A follow-up meeting was set for 7 p.m. June 12 in the town of Champion meeting room, 10 N. Broad St.
