What the St. Lawrence County Board of Legislators Did:

April 8, 2013. Legislator Mark H. Akins, R-Lisbon, was absent.

Authorized the chairman to sign an agreement with Essex County as lead applicant for the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority Cleaner Greener Communities regional sustainability plan.

Proclaimed Earth Day in St. Lawrence County.

Designated April 2013 as Fair Housing Month.

Authorized the chairman to sign a service agreement with ACM Medical Laboratory for laboratory specimen testing for Community Services.

Authorized the chairman to sign a charter sponsoring the St. Lawrence County Citizen Corps and Citizen Corps Council to enhance community emergency preparedness in St. Lawrence County.

Authorized the chairman to sign a contract for preschool special education transportation services.

Modified the 2013 Public Health budget to accept a cola to the tobacco coalition grant contract.

Authorized the chairman to sign an early intervention provider agreement with the state Department of Health.

Authorized the chairman to sign a contract for the early intervention administration program for the Public Health Department.

Modified the 2012 Public Health Department budget.

Modified the 2013 budget to reduce the departmental rent charges due to refinancing of the Canton Human Services Initiative bonds.

Adopted the county Local Government Management Guide, The Practice of Internal Controls.

Modified the 2013 Sheriff’s Office budget to roll over unspent funds from the 2012 drug buy monies and special travel accounts.

Modified the 2013 Sheriff’s Office budget and authorized the treasurer to roll over unexpended equitable sharing monies to future years until fully expended.

Authorized filling a keyboard specialist position in the Department of Social Services.

Set a public hearing for 6:50 p.m. May 6 on a local law permitting and regulating all-terrain-vehicle operation on certain public lands other than county roads.

Accepted the recommendations for the use of 2013 contingency funds for computer replacements and modified the 2013 Board of Legislators budget and Information Technology budget.

Requested the enactment of Assembly Bill No. A4761 and a same-as bill in the Senate to amend the tax law, in relation to authorizing the county to impose an additional sales tax.

Supported the efforts to secure a casino in the county.

Reappointed to the Fire Advisory Board Francis Burns, Helena; Joseph P. Gallagher, Potsdam; Scott McRobbie, Colton; Olgierd “Augie” Weiss, Canton, and Robert E. White Jr., Potsdam.

Appointed to the Board of Health Dr. Scott Spicer, Canton; Victor E. Pisani, Ogdensburg, and Jessica Scillieri Smith, Canton.
