HEUVELTON - An effective regrouping after halftime produced an 11-7 OFA win over Heuvelton in the NAC Girls Lacrosse opener for both teams on Wednesday.
Heuvelton came out and played very aggressively and we didnt react to it well at all. But we put it together in the second half and made much better decisions. We only had probably three or four drops and our passing was much better, said OFA Coach Lauren Morley after the Blue Devils answered a masterful six-goal effort by Jackie Sovie of Heuvelton.
Jackie Sovie played a great game for Heuvelton and Kaitlin Sheppard, MacKenzie Bresett and Mackenzie Comeau had big offensive games for us. Zendel Cordwell and Courtney Sherwin led the defense and first year players Janelle LaRue, Janelle Cordwell, Danielle Guimond and Lexi Kennedy played well off the bench.
Sheppard finished with four goals and one assist and Bresett tallied three goals with two assists to lead the winning offense which also included two goals by Nicole Hammond and single scores from Nikki Holmes and Comeau. Erica Chase stopped eight shots in the OFA goal and Liz Chambers posted nine saves for Heuvelton which received a single goal from Olivia St. Pierre.
Note: OFA will host Canton on Friday (football field) in a 5 p.m. start. Canton dropped a 12-5 decision to Massena Wednesday while Potsdam downed Saranac Lake 9-4.
