The Watertown girls lacrosse team possessed the ball for more than four minutes to finish the game and seal an 11-10 Frontier League victory over South Jefferson on a cold and rainy Wednesday evening at Watertown High School.

Ashley Flick scored three goals to go with an assist, while Brianne Arthur and Morgan Cadwell each provided two goals and an assist for the Cyclones (2-0 overall, 1-0 league).

Clarissa Perry led the way with a game-high five goals for South Jefferson (2-1, 0-1), and Courtney Zeigler made 10 saves.

The game was tied at six goals apiece at halftime and went back and forth until Watertown scored what would prove to be the game winner with five minutes, 24 seconds remaining.

CARTHAGE 10, IHC 6

Doria Darroch scored three goals and assisted on another, and Carly Sullivan tallied three goals as the Comets won in Carthage during the league opener for both teams.

Mackenzie Kidder recorded two goals and an assist for Carthage (1-1, 1-0). Mia Darroch chipped in with a goal and two assists for the Comets.

Goalie Rebecca Abbott made 15 saves for Carthage, which led 5-4 at halftime and held IHC to only two goals in the second half.

Kayla Miles scored three goals and had an assist to lead the Cavaliers (3-1, 0-1). Olivia Miles contributed a goal and two assists for IHC and Rachel O’Brien had a goal and an assist.

GENERAL BROWN 18, INDIAN RIVER 4

Bryanna Fazio accounted for six goals and two assists as the Lions posted a Frontier League victory over the Warriors at Dexter.

Miah Rowland finished with four goals and two assists, and Maggie Ambrose made six saves for General Brown (1-1, 1-0).

Paige Fayette and Katie Brierton each tallied two goals and one assist for Indian River (1-1, 0-1).

MASSENA 12, CANTON 5

Syracuse-bound Erin Francis scored five goals to lead the Red Raiders (1-0) past the Golden Knights in a Northern Athletic Conference game in Massena.

Dominique Valancius scored three goals and Alisha Jacobs added one goal and three assists for Massena. Shannon Casey, Carlie Leary and Devin Kelly also scored for Massena.

Tess Knight and Alison Noble scored two goals for Canton (0-1), and Katie Lapinski scored the other goal for the Golden Bears.

OFA 11, HEUVELTON 7

Kaitlin Sheppard scored four goals to lead the Blue Devils (1-0) past the Bulldogs in an NAC game in Heuvelton.

MacKenzie Bresett scored three goals and two assists, and Nicole Hammond tallied two goals for the Blue Devils. Nikki Holmes and Mackenzie Comeau also scored.

Jackie Sovie led Heuvelton (0-1) with a six-goal effort. Olivia St. Pierre also scored for the Bulldogs.

POTSDAM 8, SARANAC LAKE 5

Michaela Cole and Nettie Rishe each tallied three goals to lead Potsdam (1-1, 1-0) past Saranac Lake in an NAC game in Potsdam.

Kalie Grant and Ally Miller each added single goals.

Kayla Woodruff led the Red Storm (0-1) with two goals. Sheila Decker, Erin Skufca and Olivia Sappone also scored.

BASEBALL

POTSDAM 13, CANTON 1

Ben Miller struck out six in five innings and gave up only three hits to lead Potsdam to a victory in a Northern Athletic Conference Central Division game at SUNY Canton.

Will Coleman threw the final two innings for the Sandstoners (1-0) and struck out five.

Shawn Clark led Potsdam’s offense with three hits, including a three-run homer and double. Coleman added two hits and drove in two runs. Trevor Keleher and Andrew Ace also delivered two hits and two RBIs.

HAMMOND 5, LISBON 4

Cullen Martin struck out eight to lead the Red Devils past the Golden Knights (0-1) in a West Division game in Lisbon.

Ethan Stewart and Jon Winchester both supplied two hits for Hammond (1-0). Jon Hunter had two hits for the Golden Knights.

HEUVELTON 22, HERMON-DEKALB 0

Aaron Cobb and Matt Guardino each produced three hits as the Bulldogs shut out the Demons (0-2) in a West Division game in DeKalb Junction. Cody Holland and Aidan Scagel combined for the shutout for Heuvelton (2-0).

SOFTBALL

OFA 10, GOUVERNEUR 0

Brittany Barr threw a no-hitter in her first varsity start to lead the Blue Devils past the Wildcats (0-1) in a Central Division game in Ogdensburg.

Barr finished with five strikeouts and one walk for OFA (1-0) and also had two hits. Felicia Barr went 3-for-3, including a triple and Stacy Barr added two hits.

MALONE 12, MASSENA 1

Annie Sharlow stuck out six to send the Huskies past the Red Raiders (0-1) in a Central Division game in Massena.

Whitney Legacy tripled and doubled for Malone (1-0). Janel Heden and Sharlow each delivered two hits for the Huskies.

LISBON 11, HAMMOND 8

Alison Mitchell hit a bases-loaded triple in the fourth inning to help the Golden Knights defeat the Red Devils (0-1) in a West Division game in Lisbon.

Mitchell finished with two hits, as did Gabby Walker, Alyshia Murray and Katie Sovie for Lisbon (1-0). Alyssa Crosby led Hammond with three hits and Emily Bush singled twice.

HEUVELTON 24, HERMON-DEKALB 0

Alexis Weidner threw a two-hit shutout and struck out seven to lead the Bulldogs past the Demons (1-1) in a West Division game in DeKalb Junction.

Logan Tallman went 4-for-5, including a double, for the Bulldogs (2-0). Paige McCormick and Rachel Thornhill each supplied three hits while Abbey Basford and Alexis Swayer singled twice.
