Lt. Gen. James L. Terry, former Fort Drum commander, was nominated by President Barack Obama on Thursday to lead U.S. Army Central Command and Third Army, Shaw Air Force Base, S.C.
The nomination also included a reappointment to his current rank. Gen. Terry is serving as commander of the International Security Assistance Force Joint Command and the deputy commander, U.S. Forces-Afghanistan.
Gen. Terry led Fort Drum and the 10th Mountain Division from 2009 to 2011. He previously served as a battalion commander from 1994 to 1996 and returned as deputy commanding general in 2004.
