CANTON — A St. Lawrence County grand jury on Thursday indicted two people in connection with an alleged shooting attempt in Massena last month.

Devian J. Fletcher, 19, stands accused of shooting at a car carrying Patrick Lloyd and Miranda Green in Massena on March 27. He was indicted on charges of first-degree assault, second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and first-degree reckless endangerment.

An associate, Katelynn J. Javier, 19, was indicted on charges of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, tampering with physical evidence and third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.

Mr. Lloyd and Ms. Green are facing charges in the alleged attempted abduction Feb. 16 of Catherine A. Berry, 17, of 66 Liberty Ave., who Mr. Fletcher said was a friend.

Investigators have described Mr. Lloyd and Mr. Fletcher as New York City men who moved to the area and have become rivals in Massena’s growing drug trade. Following his arrest, Mr. Fletcher told police that Mr. Lloyd previously had threatened to kill him, and that the shooting also was in response to the alleged kidnapping attempt.

Indictment papers filed Thursday listed Mr. Fletcher’s address as 66 Liberty Ave., the same as Ms. Berry. Police surrounded that property during a standoff following the March 27 incident.

Previous documents also listed Ms. Javier as a resident of 66 Liberty Ave., although the grand jury report indicated that she lives at 72 Maple St.

The grand jury accused Mr. Fletcher of “circumstances evincing a depraved indifference to human life” by firing a .22 caliber pistol at a car driven by Mr. Lloyd. Ms. Green, who is pregnant, was cut by flying glass, the only reported injury.

Ms. Javier is accused of trying to hide the gun in the attic of 72 Maple St. Investigators also accuse her of possessing more than 2 ounces of cocaine.

Mr. Fletcher and Ms. Javier were sent to St. Lawrence County jail, Canton, without bail following their arrest, and remained there Thursday night.
