Franz powers Saints in doubleheader split


POUGHKEEPSIE — Carter Franz drove in four runs as the St. Lawrence baseball team scored five runs in the fifth and sixth innings of game two to win 11-5 against Vassar and earn a split of a Liberty League doubleheader Monday.

Ethan Braddock and Paul Piatelli each belted a pair of hits for the Saints (12-8 overall, 7-5 league).

Alex English drove in a pair of runs for the Brewers (10-11-1, 6-8-0), who won the opener, 7-2.

n Heather Johnson tripled and drove in a pair of runs in a three-run fifth inning as the Bears salvaged a split of a SUNYAC doubleheader with a 3-1 win in game two in Potsdam.

Winning pitcher Jordan Sarat scattered six hits in the second game for the Bears (7-13, 1-10).

Dee Apps went 3-for-4, including a triple, and knocked in four runs for the Lakers (7-13, 4-6), who won the first game, 18-0.
