GOUVERNEUR The village Board of Trustees canceled its regular meeting Tuesday night and rescheduled it for 6:45 p.m. today because the municipal building had no electricity.
The problem began at about 5 p.m. at the villages hydroplant, which powers the building, and a backup generator failed. The Police Departments telephones worked and officials planned to hook up a small generator or make arrangements with the state police to help with coverage.
Whatever it takes, were going to provide the services here, said Mayor Ronald P. McDougall.
A backup system at the villages water plant, which is also powered by the hydroelectric facility, was working.
