HEUVELTON - Heuvelton went to great lengths to even its Northern Conference Girls Lacrosse record at 1-1 (1-2 overall) in recording a 10-9 overtime win over Salmon River on Tuesday in a steady rain.
Salmon River got here a little late and once we got started we played pretty sloppy. But getting the win is always a plus when we didnt play very well, said Heuvelton Coach Becky Kelley whose team took a 5-1 halftime and had a potential game-winning goal called back with 12.6 second left in regulation after a full field rush beginning in the defensive end with a ball being won by Maddie St. Pierre. The goal was called back after the scorer went in the crease after the shot.
So the Bulldogs regrouped after a brief timeout and took the face off the distance scoring 13 seconds into the three minute extra session as Jackie Sovie completed her second seven-goal outing in three games.
Victoria Thompson forced overtime at 9-9, with her only goal of the game, for the Shamrocks who took leads 6-5 and 8-7 in the second half.
Olivia St. Pierre tallied a tying goal at 6-6 for Heuvelton, one of her two in the game. Ashlyn Foster also scored once for the winners who received one assist from Sovie and Maddie St. Pierre, seven saves from Heather Thompson, and stellar defensive leadership from Kylie Piercey and Ashley Piercey.
