West Carthage - Mary Lou Barker, 84, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, April 16, 2013, at the home of her daughter where she was under the care of her family and Hospice of Jefferson County.
Mary Lou was born in Canton on February 27, 1929, the daughter of the late John and Antonette Sinicropi Futia. She was a graduate of Augustinian Academy, Carthage. She married Loyd C. Barker on June 6, 1948 at St. James Church in Carthage. Together the couple operated Loyds Gun Shop in West Carthage for several years, eventually moving the business to State St. as Loyds Sport Center and finally retiring in 1975. Mr. Barker, a former mill superintendant for the Crown Zellerbach Corp. died on September 24, 2008. The couple lived for many years on the Line School Road in Champion.
Mrs. Barker was a member of St. James Catholic Church, the St. Josephs Workers , longtime volunteer for the Carthage Area Hospital Auxiliary and former President of the Ladies Civic Club of Carthage.
She is survived by her daughter: Jan LaRock of West Carthage, one son: Loyd C. Barker Jr. of Adams, 6 Grandchildren, 6 Great Grandchildren, one sister: Frances Walters of Center Point, TX, two brothers: John Futia of Florence, AL and Dominic Futia of Amherst and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Monday at 11:00 AM at St. James Catholic Church with the Rev. George F. Maroun, Pastor officiating. Entombment will be in Hillside Cemetery, Champion. Calling hours at the Bezanilla-McGraw Funeral Home will be on Sunday from 2-5pm.
