Stop paying benefits for convicted officials

We have all known for years that some taxpayers’ money falls into politicians’ pockets, although nothing has been done about it for years. I believe there is a simple solution that would help.

If a law was passed that said any elected official, past or present, convicted of stealing or misusing tax money would immediately lose all pension and medical insurance, retirement benefits, as well as any other penalty imposed, this would eliminate some of the problem and would certainly be a win-win situation for taxpayers.

If no money was taken, we win; if the person convicted loses all those benefits (thousands of dollars each person per year), we win in that case. No way taxpayers lose with a law like this, if written without fine print.

I have read about cases where persons convicted of stealing thousands of dollars and sentenced to one to three years in special prison with deluxe accommodations.

They often are released within a year and receive pensions amounting to thousands of dollars per year plus full medical benefits.

I am sure no honest official would vote against this bill, but I doubt it will ever be introduced to be voted on.
