Hammond girls basketball honored at banquet

ALEXANDRIA BAY - On Tuesday evening the Hammond Girls’ Varsity basketball team was honored at Bonnie Castle Restaurant in Alexandria Bay.

The 2012-2013 edition of the Lady Red Devils and their family members enjoyed a turkey dinner with all the fixings. The girls were honored for having one of the best regular seasons in recent memory at 17-1 according to Head Coach Shawn Dack.

“Working with these girls has been rewarding. The way they came together and worked for a common goal was amazing. That is why they accomplished all that they did. The team finished the season ranked fourth in the New York State Sports Writers Association’s Class “D” Rankings,” said Dack.

“For the seniors to go out with two sectional titles and an undefeated D-West league championship is a testament to their hard work, dedication and leadership skills.”

Alyssa Crosby led way with magnificent senior season. She voted as a MVP in the NAC West Division, First Team All-State, a two-time Watertown Times All-North MVP and honored by the girls basketball officials bard as the Jan Reetz Award recipient. Crosby finished her career as the second leading scorer in Hammond history.

Gabby Marshall garnered Second Tean All NAC West honors and Courtney Bova was Second Team all NAC West selection as well and made Fifth Team All-State. Cassi Whalen received Hammond’s NAC Sportsmanship Award and Alyssa Crosby, Brianne Langtry, Gabby Marshall, Macy Wilson, Emily Bush and Mikayla Horton all earned NAC All-Academic Awards.

“For the younger girls coming back next year and for the girls coming up from JV; a challenge lies ahead. Coach Chet Truskowski and I will do our very best to get them ready for another run at a championship,” said Dack.

“We have a full schedule this summer which includes team camp at St. Bonaventure University in Olean, NY. Seniors Brianne Langtry, Macy Wilson, Gabby Marshall and Alyssa Crosby have been instrumental leaders who will be missed next year. They should be proud of what they have accomplished during their careers. I am proud of them and will miss them tremendously!” said Dack.

“Hammond will return Emily Bush, Tayler Bowman, Courtney Bova, Cassi Whalen, Mikayla Horton, and Hailey Ogden. Congratulations to these girls and to their parents and families on a wonderful season.”
