Potsdam, Salmon River play to NAC softball split; N-N outscores B-M

Potsdam Central and Salmon River played to a split while Massena Central fell short to Gouverneur in NAC Central Division varsity softball matchups on Monday.

Potsdam 6-3, Salmon River 5-13: In Potsdam, the Lady Sandstoners rallied to win the opening game before the Lady Shamrocks relayed a big finish into a convincing win in the nightcap.

Jordan Emerson fanned three, walked four and scattered three hits to earn the victory in the first game for Potsdam which overcame a 5-0 deficit with four runs in the bottom of the second inning then two more in the fourth. Becca Leroux (3K, 3BB, 4H) was saddled with the loss.

Kelsey Green sparked the Potsdam offense with two hits, including a bases-clearing double in the bottom of the second, and two runs scored. Emerson rapped an RBI-single and scored a run. Christy Stoian had the other Potsdam hit.

Sierre White doubled and scored a run for Salmon River. Taylor Armstrong (2 runs scored) and Kevi Shenendoah (1 run scored) had the other hits.

The nightcap saw Leroux (4K, 4BB, 3H) go the distance for the win as the Lady Shamrocks worked their way to a 5-3 lead heading into the bottom of the fourth inning where they broke the game open with an eight-run barrage. Green took the loss, working the first three innings before Emerson pitched the fourth inning in relief.

White doubled and came around to scored three times to lead the Salmon River (1-2) offense. Armstrong, Leroux and Cierra Hill all singled and scored twice.

For Potsdam (1-2), Ashley Webster and Green both singled and scored a run. Emerson had the other hit and Erica Mason scored the other run.

The Lady Sandstoners play at OFA on Wednesday while Salmon River plays host to Massena next Monday.

Gouverneur 4, Massena 1: In Gouverneur, the Lady Wildcats built a 4-0 lead before the Lady Raiders put together their only run in the top of the seventh inning.

Kaylynn Conto (4K, 3BB, 6) took the loss while Mackanzie Rowe (10K, 5H, 0BB) went the distance for the win.

Mackenzie Young paced the Massena offense going 2-3 with a double. Kaleigh Zappia and Stephanie Rogers each singled to account for the other hits while Samanntha Villnave came around to score the other Lady Raider run.

Rowe aided her cause offensively with two hits and two runs scored. Jordan Lay singled, scored a run and drove in another.

Massena plays at OFA on Thursday.

In the other NAC Central game on Monday, OFA outscored Canton 7-3.

OFA 7, Canton 3: OFA (2-1 NAC Central) capitalized on four Canton errors bunching three runs in the fourth inning and four in the sixth inning to drop Canton to 1-1.

Brittany Barr struck out nine and allowed just one earned run pitching the victory while the Canton combination of Emma Rexford and Beth Pearson allowed four earned runs and combined for nine strikeouts.

Felicia Barr singled and doubled for OFA while Kaeli Mace singled twice and scored two runs for Canton. Pearson stroked a two-run single in the sixth inning for Canton.

EAST DIVISION

A pair of East Division games on Monday, Norwood-Norfolk outscored Brushton-Moira 8-6 and Madrid-Waddington downed Parishville-Hopkinton 14-8.

N-N 8, B-M 6: In Brushton, the Lady Flyers took advantage of the errors early on, scoring once in the first and increased the lead to 3-0 with two runs in the second inning.

B-m broke the shutout bid of winning pitcher Kate Ames in the bottom of the second, cutting the deficit to 3-1, before the Lady Flyers added two more runs in the fourth to hold a brief 5-1 cushion.

The Panthers took a one-run lead, 6-5, with a five-run fourth inning, but miscues once again thwarted their offensive effort as Norwood-Norfolk capped the victory with a three-run fifth.

Mickey Fregoe led the winners with a single and double in four trips to the plate as Kristin Barkley doubled and drove in two runs.

Rachel Tower led the Panthers (2-2) at the dish, going 3-for-3 with an RBI while Emily O’Connor ripped a bases-loaded double in the fourth inning. Arielle Gary launched a triple while Ashley DeBeer and Kenzie Traynor had a single each during the set back.

O’Connor scattered eight hits over seven innings and fanned nine in taking the loss.

N-N is slated to host M-W on Thursday while B-M welcomes Tupper Lake on Wednesday.

M-W 14, P-H 8: In Parishville, the Lady Yellowjackets took early control with five runs in the first inning then broke the game open with a seven-run surge in their final at-bat to come away with the win.

Desiree Price (4K, 7BB, 10H) went the distance for the win while Nicole White (5K, 10H) took the loss.

Moriah Patnode led the M-W offense going 4-5 with two doubles and four runs scored. Cryderman was 2-4 with a triple and run scored while Pryce aided her cause with a single and three runs scored.

Marissa Paradis (triple) and Kodi Perkins (2 runs scored) had two hits apiece as the Lady Panthers suffered their first loss of the season. Caitlin McGregor was 1-3 with two runs scored while Jenna Converse came around to score a run.

The Lady Panthers are slated to Colton-Pierrepont this afternoon.

WEST DIVISION

The West Division encounters Monday saw Lisbon blank Harrisville 15-0 and Edwards-Knox outlast Clifton-Fine 9-8.
