Dentist’s wife admits failing to pay $200,000 in business taxes

A Watertown woman has admitted in federal court that she failed to pay $236,238 in income taxes.

Donna G. Schneeberger, age unavailable, of 229 Clinton St., pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court, Syracuse, to one count of subscribing and filing a false tax return, according to a plea agreement filed Monday with the court.

According to the agreement, Mrs. Schneeberger was responsible for keeping all the books and records for the dental business of her husband, Dr. Gerald J. Schneeberger, between 1999 and 2009. During those years, she prepared the employment taxes, kept the books and did the payroll. She also prepared the business’s tax returns and the couple’s joint income tax returns, under-reporting the business’s gross receipts, according to the plea agreement.

According to the agreement, the failure to report the full gross receipts resulted in the underpayment of $66,394 in taxes in 2005, $86,484 in 2006 and $83,360 in 2007. She faces a maximum sentence of three years in prison and an order to pay the full amounts due in taxes at sentencing. No sentence date has been set by the court.
