Watertown’s Lynch wins Liberty League honor

Former Watertown High School standout Malcolm Lynch received Liberty League Rookie of the Week honors on Monday for his performance for the St. Lawrence University men’s lacrosse team last week.

Lynch, a long-stick midfielder, scored twice, including the game-winning shot in the Saints’ victory against Rensselaer. He added three caused turnovers and four ground balls.

SLU teammate Jack Nuland won the league’s defensive performer of the week with a .708 save percentage and 3.62 goals-against average as the Saints’ goalie.

In women’s track and field, the Saints’ Elizabeth Edwards was named the top track performer and SLU’s Divya Biswal the top field performer. Both won two individual events as the Saints captured the Liberty League championship. Also, the Saints’ Jack Whelan was performer of the week in men’s golf after winning medalist honors at the Fred Kravitz Invitational in Rochester.

Area athletes named to the honor roll were Caroline Kieltyka (St. Lawrence) in softball; Paul Barrett (St. Lawrence) in men’s tennis; and Katie VanDeValk (Clarkson) in women’s lacrosse.
