MASSENA - Village police are suggesting parents and guardians to remind young people of the potential dangers associated with approaching a strangers vehicle.
Massena Village Police Chief Timmy J. Currier said his department is investigating an incident reported at 2:52 p.m. Tuesday.
He said a 13 year-old female was walking on Main Street near the Main Street Bridges when she observed a vehicle described as a newer silver 4 door car slow down and the operator appear to be checking her out. When the female got to the Main Street and Maple intersection, she reported the same vehicle was turned around at the intersection and an African-American male believed to be in his 20s waved her toward his car.
The girl did not approach the car and went to a nearby building and reported the incident and police were called, Mr. Currier said.
The villages police chief said a second incident was reported a short time later near the intersection of Park Avenue and Lincoln Place, where it is reported that a black male in a teal colored car blew a kiss toward to teenage girl.
We are investigating these reports, including looking at video footage of a camera we have in the area, Mr. Currier said. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Massena Police Department at 769-3577 or email email@example.com .
Mr. Currier said people are reminded to take some precautions when walking including using routes where there is lots of activity, walking with others, never approaching a vehicle of a stranger or someone that you do not know and report suspicious activity to police immediately.
We have to be careful not to characterize this as an attempted abduction. No question the description of the behavior is creepy, but these reported incidents occurred in broad daylight at or near very busy intersections and locations, Mr. Currier said. We are taking these serious and we are investigating.
