CARTHAGE- Irene Goetz, of West Carthage Street Road, died on Tuesday, April 23, 2013 at the Country Manor Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. She was born on January 9, 1919 in the Town of Croghan, the daughter of William R. and Harriett Corner Burns. She was a graduate of Beaver Falls High School in 1935. She was also a graduate of Canton ATC in 1977. She attended Syracuse University and Empire State College.
She married Harold R. Geotz on October 10, 1942 at the St. James Rectory with the Reverend Father Samuel De Angelo, officiating. Mr. Goetz a 25 year veteran of the Carthage Police Department, he died on April 16, 1969.
She was a Food Service Director; she retired after 25 years at the Carthage Central School District and 7 years on staff at the Jefferson Community College Food & Nutrition Hospitality and Tourism Department. A lifetime member of the St. James Catholic Church in Carthage; a charter member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Jefferson County School Food Service Association; The NYS Food Service Association; and the National School Food Association.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Mass of Resurrection will be held at the St. James Catholic Church in Carthage on Monday, May 29, 2013 at 12:00pm with the Revered George F. Maroun, officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery in Carthage. Calling hours will be held at The St. James Catholic Church in Carthage which is located at 327 West Street in Carthage on Monday, April 29, 2013 from 11:00am-12:00pm at the St. James Catholic Church in Carthage. Arrangements are being handled by Lundy Funeral Home & Cremation Service Inc. located at 500 State Street in Carthage.
