Quilter and designer Mary B. Knapp, Watertown, has written a new book that features star designs on quilts.
The book, Star Quilts, published by C&T Publishing, explores how quilters can create various types of stars by using a grid system with no complex calculations. Mrs. Knapp shares five projects for quilters to learn her system. The book includes tips for fabric selection, making templates and cutting and piecing techniques.

Mrs. Knapp is a retired Watertown High School biology teacher. Her quilt subjects range from wildlife and landscapes of the Thousand Islands to precise, complex geometric patterns. She also enjoys re-creating cultural landmarks and wildlife of the St. Lawrence River Valley in fabric.
Mrs. Knapp was quilter/designer-in-residence at the Great Lakes Seaway Trail Discovery Center during this years Great Lakes Seaway Trail Quilt Show. Her work has been featured in various exhibits, including Higher Mathematics and Traditional Patterns: The Quilts of Mary Knapp in 2009 hosted by Traditional Arts in Upstate New York in Canton.
