Police: teens found with items taken from motor vehicles


Three teens face possession-of-stolen-property charges after a North Meadow Street man noticed that one of them was riding away with his bicycle early Monday, Watertown police said.

The three youths had been working in concert to steal items from parked motor vehicles, police said.

Anthony S. Bidwell, 18, of 245 N. Rutland St., Apt. 2, was charged at 4:25 a.m. Monday with five counts of fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property and one count of trespass after he was observed on the front porch of 152 N. Meadow St., police said.

Police said they later discovered he had a backpack containing several items, including four GPS units, a cellphone and a knife, that had been stolen from parked motor vehicles on North Meadow, South Massey, Dimmick, West Ten Eyck and Paddock streets and Lachenauer Drive.

Mr. Bidwell was arraigned in Watertown City Court and sent to the Metro-Jefferson Public Safety Building on $500 bail, pending arraignment.

Brandon J. Barnett, 19, of 24097 Route 12, was charged in the 100 block of North Meadow Street with fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property. Police said he stole a bicycle off the front porch of 440 W. Ten Eyck St. He was held at the PSB on a violation-of-probation warrant, police said.

Billy J. Martin, 16, of 24097 Route 12, was charged in the 100 block of North Orchard Street with fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property. He had a backpack containing a digital camera that was taken from a vehicle on Greensview Drive, police said. He was held at the PSB pending arraignment.
