MASSENA - A shutout is always a shared experience for a pitcher and a catcher.
OFAs combination of Breton LaRose on the mound and Jon Tayler behind the plate both enjoyed moments of dominance as OFA blanked Massena 8-0 on Thursday for the 3-1 Blue Devils straight win.
LaRose struck out 10 and walked only one extending a streak where the Blue Devil pitchers have not allowed an earned run in 21 innings.
Taylers role in the shutout went well beyond articulate play-calling said OFA Coach Tom Pinkerton.
Jon Tayler called a great game and he also blocked four low pitches, threw out a runner stealing and called for a pickoff with runners on second and third in the second inning and Seth Pinkerton ended up tagging out both runners, said Coach Pinkerton.
Jon Tayler just had a fantastic game and Breton LaRose mixed his pitches well and reached back for two strikeouts to end a Massena bases-loaded threat in the second.
Offensively Pat Cosmo belted two doubles, one off the base of the leftfield fence, Andrew Cole doubled and singled, Konnor Murdock rapped a double off the fence and Kinnon LaRose and Zach Sharpe singled.
Isaiah Dillabough stroked two singles for Massena and Connor Paquin added one.
Massena JVs 6 - OFA 5: The OFA JVs suffered their first loss of the season in a 6-5 decision where Massena scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. Peyton Lalone and Nick Sweeney singled twice for OFA with Jon Rogers and Josh Carroll stroking singles.
Sebastian Quintilliani went the distance on the mound striking out nine.
The inability to capitalize on man-up situations left OFA two goals down at the conclusion of Thursday nights home lacrosse game. Visiting Saranac Lake survived 10 penalties in the first half and five in the second half including a three-minute stick infraction to start the fourth quarter to win 8-6.
We just did not capitalize. We had a lot of nice chances on own man-ups but we just didnt score, sad OFA Coach Matt Morley after Saranac Lake scored its second win g the season and dropped the Devils to 1-6.
We played hard the whole game but we just didnt execute the offensive plays which worked hard on in practice or we shot the ball right at the goalie.
The Red Storm were led by three goals from Josh Stevens and Seth Pickering and two from Oliver Holmes to back a nine-save effort from Mike Burpoe.
Nick Perrigo tallied three goals with one assist for OFA and Jake Garrison and Andy Roddy each finished with one goal and one assist. Jordan McCormick passed out two assists, Jared Berg scored one goal and Justin Feldt each added one assist. Spencer Lawrence finished with nine saves for the Devils.
