ALEXANDRIA BAY- Jeffrey K. Bates, 67, of Dingman Point Road died Saturday, April 27, 2013 at the Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland, OH during a heart transplant. He had had heart related issues since 1995.

Born February 28, 1946 in Johnson City, NY, he was the son of the late Willard Bates and the late Eva Harbst Bates and attended school at Maine-Endwell School.

Jeffrey served in the United States Navy in the 1960’s and was honorably discharged.

A marriage to Dawn Cooper ended in divorce.

He was a meat cutter at various grocery stores in New York and Pennsylvania and worked construction, including the Olympic skating rink at Lake Placid in 1980.

Jeffrey was a member of Lake Side Lodge #328 IOOF, the National Rifle Association, the National Trappers Association and the Alexandria Central School Board of Education.

He was an avid hunter, trapper and fisherman, and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren.

Survivors include his companion of forty years, Karen Plantz, a son and his wife, Geronimo and Andrea Bates, Alexandria Bay, three daughters and a son-in-law, Heather Perry and her children, Trenton and Tatum, Alexandria Bay, Heidi and Jeremy Hobbs and their daughter, Maggie, of Syracuse and Eva Bates and her children, Skye, Joplin and Shannon Wood, all of VA; a sister, Martha Cooper, Vestal; a brother and his wife, Ronald and Dorothy Bates, Nichol; and a sister-in-law, Willetta Bates, North Pole, AK.Several brothers and sisters and two best friends, Steven Davis and Lynn Cook died before him.

The funeral will be 10 am Saturday, May 4, 2013 at Frederick Bros. Funeral Home, Theresa.

Calling hours are 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm Friday at the funeral home.
