Utica - Shirley E. Frederick, 87, a seventeen year resident of the Masonic Care Community and formerly of Adams, died Sunday morning at Saint Luke’s Hospital, Utica. Funeral service will be 12:00 pm Wednesday at the Piddock Funeral Home, Adams, with Rev. Walter Giles officiating. Burial will follow in the Elmwood Cemetery, Adams. A calling hour will begin at 11:00 am prior to the funeral.

Born February 28, 1926 in Ellisburg, daughter of Herbert and Olive Cronk Frederick. Shirley was born with Cerebral Palsy and was privately tutored for many years and later attended Ithaca Reconstruction Facility. Following the death of her mother she was boarded in various homes and later resided in the former Vale Haven Nursing Home in Mannsville. She moved to the Masonic Care Community in Utica on June 29, 1996 where she could be closer to her cousin Iris Ruffrage.

She is survived by several cousins, Iris and husband Ed Ruffrage, Whitesboro; Beryl and husband Earl Remington, Adams; Stephen and wife Jo Ruffrage, Whitesboro; Thomas and wife Deborah Ruffrage, Cicero; and Karen and husband Doug Martin, Marcy.

She loved old movies and music, where she was usually the winner of ‘Name That Tune’ contests where she lived. She was a friend to all that knew her.

Shirley was a member of the Zion Episcopal Church, Pierrepont Manor.
