Laruen Crump named assistant coach for Clarkson women’s volleyball

POTSDAM - The Clarkson University Volleyball program is pleased to announce the addition of Lauren Crump as the new assistant coach for the Golden Knights starting this summer.

Crump, who will graduate from Indiana University East this May with a degree in Communications with a 3.785 grade-point average, was a four-year captain for the Red Wolves and is the NAIA’s all-time leader in assists during the rally-scoring era. In her career at IUE, Crump’s teams posted a winning percentage of .829, including a 44-6 record in 2012.

An accomplished student-athlete in both the classroom and on the court, Crump was both a three-time Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Year and Tachikara–NAIA All-American as well as a Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-American. With 6908 assists, she is the NAIA all-time leading setter.

“We are all very sad to be saying goodbye to Sarah Morton, but are so happy for her new life that’s she’s starting with her soon-to-be husband, John,” head coach Johan Dulfer said. “It was important in our search for Sarah’s replacement to find someone who would bring the same passion for the game that she brought to the program, and I think we found the perfect person for the job in Lauren Crump. During the interview process it became clear to all of us that Lauren is the right person to help us continue on our path towards another championship and I am thrilled to be adding her to the staff. She has the passion for the game that we look for and she brings a wealth of experience playing some of the best NAIA teams in the country and winning four conference championships. I expect Lauren to bring a championship mindset to Clarkson and hit the ground running as we prepare for the 2013 campaign.”

Crump also was a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and was a student blogger for IUE.

The Clarkson University Volleyball team had its best season ever in 2012, going 31-7 overall, capturing the Liberty League Tournament title, winning the NCAA New York Regional, and advancing all the way to the Elite 8 (NCAA Quarterfinals). The Golden Knights have reached the NCAA Tournament four straight years and have hosted the New York Regional in each of the past two seasons.
