MASSENA Mrs. Laurette J. Locke, 80, of 115 Navajo Road, Satsuma, Florida, formerly of Massena, passed away Friday morning, May 3, 2013 at Kindred Hospital-North Florida. She had been in failing health since December.
Laurette was born December 2, 1932 in Malone, the daughter of the late Napoleon and Dora Vallee LeRoux. She graduated from Massena High School in 1950 and later from the St. Louis School of Nursing in Berlin, New Hampshire. On May 19, 1956, she married John E. Locke at the Church of the Sacred Heart with Rev. Jack L. Downs, officiating. Mr. Locke predeceased her on March 14, 1992.
Laurette was a registered nurse at Massena Central Foundry for 28 years, retiring in 1987. She was an avid participant in ALNON, the Altar and Rosary Society in Florida, and regularly attended mass. Before moving to Florida over 20 years ago, she was a communicant of the St. Lawrence Church in Louisville. She enjoyed making jewelry, quilting, making her own music CDs, doing woodworking with her husband before he passed, and chatting with people on the computer. Perhaps her greatest enjoyment is the time she spend with her family, especially her grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughter, Kathy Dobbins of Massena; her grandchildren, John, Jessika, and Meghan Dobbins; her great grandson, Emmit Robert Michael Dobbins; her brother, Robert LeRoux of Florida; and her niece, Susan and Wayne Robertson of Boston.
Friends may call at the Donaldson Funeral Home, Massena, Tuesday 2-4 and 7-9 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday 12:00 NOON at the Church of the Sacred Heart with Rev. Jack L. Downs, celebrating. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Area 2, Massena.
Memorial Contributions may be made in her memory to Multiple Sclerosis Research or the American Heart Association.
