JCC, high school business concept winners earn prizes


Cash prizes totaling $2,625 were awarded to Jefferson Community College and local high school students for the annual Entrepreneurship Conference.

The Lakeffect Winery business concept by JCC student David W. Countryman of Watertown won him $1,000 and a year’s membership in the Greater Watertown-North Country Chamber of Commerce, according to a released statement.

Other JCC students who took home prizes were Jaime L. Barton of Clayton, who won $500 for her concept, Whip-Poor-Will Designs, and Karen A. Castor of Redfield, who received $250 for her concept, Castorland.

Watertown High School students Tian Chen and Bermet T. Abaibekova, winners of the high school business concept competition, won $500 and a one-year membership in the chamber. Teams from Indian River High School and Edwards-Knox Central School won $250 and $150, respectively.
