High school track: Ricalton, Pierce power Canton at Rome Invite


Maria Ricalton captured fourth place in the 1,500-meter run, and Laura Pierce was fifth in the 800, to help lead the Canton girls track and field team to 11th place on Saturday at the Rome Invitational.

Canton scored 20 points, while Bethlehem of Section 2 (Capital District) was the top team with 84.50 points.

Ricalton and Pierce both contributed to the third-place 1,600 relay, along with teammates Gemma Delrossi and Jana Prudhomme.

Gemma Delrossi, Rebecca Delrossi, Emma Collins and Clare Olin ran to a second-place finish in the 1,600 sprint medley relay.

Moira Fayle finished fourth in the 3,000 and ran on the fourth-place 3,200 relay for Lowville, while Alexis Bach took fourth in the long jump.

Gabby Thompson placed second in the 2,000 steeplechase for Immaculate Heart Central.
