Salmon River, SLC boys lacrosse teams notch NAC road wins


CANTON –The Salmon River varsity boys lacrosse team used an overpowering third quarter to pull away to a 19-7 NAC decision on the road over Canton Central on Monday.

The Shamrocks, now 10-0 atop the standings, got off to a strong start, outscoring the Bears 5-1 in the first quarter but for one of the few times this season, they were outscored 5-4 in the second to take a 9-6 lead into halftime. The Shamrocks then went on to take complete control of the game after the break, reeling off 10 unanswered goals through the third quarter.

Shamrock freshman Skylar Thomas paced the offense with five goals while Dalston Day added three markers. Day and Kyle Lewis both tallied five assists and Frank David added three goals for the Shamrocks, who are ranked 5th in the latest New York State Sportswriters Class C poll. Kason Tarbell (2 assists), Trenton Tarbell, Sky Sunday and Lakota Square scored two goals apiece.

Kobi Johnson (14 saves) and Randy Peters (8 saves) combined to pick up the win between the pipes for the Shamrocks.

Jack Elberty netted two goals and had an assist to pace the Golden Bears (7-3). Josh Pierson, Peyton Vanbibber, Cody Moore, Brandon Rodee and Jake Facey scored solo goals for Canton.

Nate Gibson was credited with seven saves in goal for the Bears.

The Shamrocks return to action this afternoon on the road against Potsdam Central starting at 4:30 p.m.

In the other NAC boys lacrosse matchups on Monday, St. Lawrence Central outscored OFA 7-3 and Colton-Pierrepont traveled to Saranac Lake.

SLC 7, OFA 3: In Ogdensburg, the Larries scored the final two goals of the game to seal the win against the Blue Devils. Cody Burns 91 assist) and Marshall Burninghausen anchored the winning attack with three goals apiece. Skyler Burns chipped in a goal and assist. Blake Baldwin recorded a pair of assists while Styles Arquiett and Lukas Arquiett each finished with solo helpers.

Jake Garrison scored twice and Andrew Roddy had the other goal for OFA. Andrew Putnam and Nate Peo each fashioned solo assists.

Kody Kocsis turned aside 11 shots working the SLC crease for the win. Spencer Lawrence had 13 saves for OFA.

The Larries are slated to play host to Colton-Pierrepont on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
